Pointless Audio makes tools with a point of view. Not the most accurate emulation, not the most feature-complete plugin — software that pushes audio somewhere interesting and stays out of the way while doing it.

The name is not a joke. Pointless means without a point to prove. It also means exactly what it sounds like, depending on the day.

Lo-fi as documentation

Most lo-fi plugins treat imperfection as an aesthetic — a filter you sprinkle on top. Here it works the other way around: the imperfection is documented from the circuit. When the original hardware drifts, pumps, hisses or clips too early, the plugin does the same thing, for the same reason, in the same place in the signal path. The noise is information.

The bench

These plugins start as hardware on a bench — bought, repaired, measured. A real 1987 Japanese four-track with a preamp that clips early and unapologetically. A bucket-brigade delay whose modulation rates were measured on the actual pedal, not copied from a schematic. A spring reverb whose springs were recorded one by one — they model springs, we recorded ours.

Measurement first, folklore second: when the measurement and the textbook disagree, the measurement wins. That rule has cost us weeks. It is also the whole product.

How things ship

Built slowly in northern Italy, by one person plus the occasional borrowed pair of ears. A plugin ships when it survives listening — not when a roadmap says so. That is why the catalog is small, why some pages here say no date, and why they mean it.

Everything is licensed the same way: perpetual, no account, no iLok, no subscription. Free updates within the major version. The free plugins stay free, forever.
